Did you know that Cervical Screening has changed in Australia? The Pap test has been replaced with a new Cervical Screening Test every five years.
Scientific evidence and latest medical studies shows that the New Cervical Screening Test is more effective at detecting the human papillomavirus (HPV) that causes cervical abnormalities at an early stage. Cervical cancer is rare and it usually takes 10 years for abnormalities by this virus to develop into cervical cancer (cancerscreening.gov.au/cervical).
Who should have a Cervical screening Test? If you are a women aged 25-74 years of age and have ever been sexually active, you should have a Cervical Screening Test every five years until the age of 74.
Most cervical cancer is preventable when it is diagnosed at an early stage of the disease. Please do a regular visits with your health care professionals to prevent an exacerbation of any conditions, just remember regular monitoring will help us to stay healthy. Prevention is better than cure.
